What Does Your Nervous System Have to Do with Makin’ MONEY??
Nervous system regulation is all the rage these days.
Your nervous system controls your entire internal world. It keeps your heart beating, your digestion moving, and your body in balance. A well-regulated nervous system helps you respond to stress appropriately and return to a calm, steady state. In short: it keeps you in homeostasis.
But regulation doesn’t mean you never feel overwhelmed, fearful, stressed, sad, or angry. You’re human, of course you will!! What it means is that you don’t get stuck in those states. You can feel them, move through them, and come back to center.
The truth is: your nervous system is shifting all day long through different states. According to Polyvagal Theory, there are three main states your nervous system can land in
Dorsal Vagal (Freeze / Shutdown): The oldest, most primitive state. It supports rest and digestion but also causes collapse and immobilization when overwhelmed.
Sympathetic (Fight or Flight): This gets you mobilized. It’s useful when you need to act — but stay stuck here too long, and you’ll feel anxious, hypervigilant, controlling, and unable to manifest from a grounded place.
Ventral Vagal (Safe and Social): This is the sweet spot — where you feel safe, connected, open, and inspired. It’s where your best decisions and manifestations happen.
Nervous System Meets Law of Attraction
The Law of Attraction says “like attracts like.” So if you’re feeling low, stuck, or fearful — you tend to call in more of the same. When your thoughts and emotions are positive and aligned, life feels like it flows more easily.
Abraham Hicks often talks about being in alignment, in the vortex, high-vibe, or in flow. It’s all pointing to the same thing: your energetic state aka your nervous system.
Being “in alignment” means your thoughts are clear and optimistic. You feel grateful, hopeful, and certain that what you want is on its way. Business feels easier. You feel resilient even when things go sideways. You trust the clients are coming. You believe money is flowing. You listen to your intuition, ask for support, and show up in your marketing with energy.
In other words...you’re in your ventral vagal state.
And when you’re in this state, magic happens. You think of someone and they call. You want to book a trip, and flights are suddenly on sale. A consult appears in your calendar. You feel inspired to post online, pitch yourself, or connect with someone new. You feel like you’re doing great work and the world is reflecting it back.
You’re calm. Whole. Connected. Able to breathe deeply and bounce back when things don’t go as planned.
When You’re “Out of Alignment”....Let’s be honest, when you’re “out of alignment,” everything feels like garbage.
You’re in a bad mood. You’re spinning in fear. Life feels unfair and hard. You’re comparing yourself to everyone online. You feel like you’re doing everything wrong and somehow still not doing enough. You’re avoiding your bank account or obsessively checking it. You feel desperate for clients but also totally uninspired.
You might be overworking, micromanaging, or hiding. Posting on social media feels impossible. Serving your current clients feels heavy. You’re grumpy, depleted, and disconnected from your sense of power.
This is what it feels like when you’re stuck in Sympathetic or Dorsal Vagal.
This is Where Most People Live...Especially Around Money
Most people are chronically dysregulated when it comes to money.
Whether they’re stuck in freeze or fight, they’re operating from survival. Even folks who “have enough” are often in a near-constant fear state about losing it, not having enough in the future, or not managing it “right.”
I met someone recently who said, “I love money… but I’m scared of it.”
This is the nervous system at play.
Money isn’t just a resource; it’s tied to safety, belonging, worthiness, and survival. We need it to eat, to live, to get healthcare. So it makes sense that it stirs deep emotional patterns and unconscious fears.
Even if your basic needs are met, you might still feel chronically anxious or avoidant around money, which means your nervous system is out of balance.
Your Brain on Fear
Here’s the neuroscience of it:
When you're in a fear state (fight or flight), blood flow is rerouted away from the prefrontal cortex, the part of your brain responsible for decision-making and problem-solving. You literally can’t think clearly.
Instead, your amygdala and midbrain take over. These areas run on survival mode and old programming, often beliefs formed before the age of six. You're reacting from childhood wounds, not present-day wisdom.
That’s why money spirals can feel so irrational and why you might repeat the same patterns, even when you “know better.”
Old Trauma Creates Money Dysregulation
A dysregulated nervous system around money is usually rooted in unprocessed trauma.
Some of that trauma may be directly about money like growing up in poverty, watching your parents fight about it, losing it all, or not having enough to meet basic needs.
But often, the trauma is indirect. Experiences like:
Being bullied
Feeling like a burden to your parents
Failing a test and feeling like a failure
Not being seen or supported emotionally
These early experiences shape your beliefs about safety, worthiness, and power. And those beliefs extend to money: "I don’t belong."
”I can’t get it right."
“I’m not good with money.”
"I’m not worthy of ease or abundance.”
So What Can You Do?
You don’t need to be perfectly “in alignment” all the time. That’s not human and even Abraham Hicks will tell you that.
But you can work with your nervous system. You can process the stored trauma and emotion that keeps pulling you out of your power.
As you release what’s been held in your body and your subconscious, you feel:
Safer
Less reactive
More grounded
More hopeful
You begin to trust life. You believe that things will work out. You feel optimistic, inspired, and creative. You stop gripping and start receiving.
You naturally shift more often into ventral vagal, where true manifestation happens. And from here, the money flows more easily. But more importantly:
You feel better.
You feel calm. Connected. Whole. Empowered.
And isn’t that what you’re really after?
