Why Money Still Feels Hard (Even When You’re Doing the Work)

Struggling with your relationship with money—even after mindset work or nervous system work—is more common than you think.

This is where financial therapy and deeper emotional processing come in.

Because often, it’s not just what happened to you…

It’s what your system hasn’t fully processed.

It’s Not Just What Happened to You

I talk a lot about “what happened to you.”

Because your patterns with money didn’t come out of nowhere.
They came from experiences your system had to adapt to.

But here’s the piece that often gets missed…

It’s not just what happened to you.

It’s what your system was able to process…and what it wasn’t.

What Happens When You Don’t Process Your Experiences

Digesting your life is a lot like digesting your food.

It’s happening all the time—whether you realize it or not.

And when it doesn’t happen well… things don’t just disappear.

They build.

Fatigue. Heaviness. Anxiety. Indecision. Reactivity.
That feeling of being overwhelmed for no clear reason.

As a child, you’re rarely taught how to process your emotions or experiences.

So instead… things get stored.

And as you grow up, the ways you were shown—or not shown—become your pattern for handling life.

Over time, what hasn’t been processed starts to pile up.

And eventually, your system can’t keep up.

So instead of processing what’s happening now…you push it down.

Archive it.

Until something cracks it back open.

A big life event.
A stressful moment.
Or something small—like your kid looking at you sideways—and suddenly you’re way more activated than the moment calls for.

This is not random.

This is a system that hasn’t been able to fully process what it’s taken in.

What Is Ama? (And How It Affects Your Life and Money)

Think about how your body digests food.

If you eat an apple, your body goes through an incredible process—breaking it down, extracting nutrients, and turning it into you.

What’s useful is absorbed. What’s not is eliminated.

That’s healthy digestion.

But most people don’t have perfect digestion.

Sometimes food moves through too fast and you don’t absorb anything.

More often… it doesn’t fully break down.

And what’s left behind is what Ayurveda calls ama—undigested residue, or toxic buildup that can impact how your whole system functions.

Ama isn’t just physical.

There’s emotional ama too.

Everything you didn’t fully feel.
Everything you pushed past.
Everything your system didn’t have the capacity to process at the time.

That doesn’t disappear.

It stays in your system—and begins to shape how you think, feel, and respond.

Including your relationship with money.

Your Ability to Process Is Everything (Agni Explained Simply)

In Ayurveda, your ability to process is called agni—your digestive fire.

Agni is your ability to take something in and turn it into something usable.

Food.
Emotions.
Experiences.
Money.

When your agni is strong, you process, integrate, and move forward.

When it’s overwhelmed, things build.

And that buildup—ama—starts to take over.

How This Shows Up in Your Relationship with Money

When your system is overloaded, you feel it.

And one of the clearest places it shows up?

Your relationship with money.

You might:

  • overthink decisions

  • avoid looking at your bank account

  • feel anxious even when things are “fine”

  • overspend or hold yourself back

  • react instead of respond

Not because you don’t know what to do…

But because your system is already carrying too much.

So you fall back into old patterns.

The ones that helped you feel safe at one point in your life.

Maybe having more money feels unsafe because it would separate you from your family.

Maybe money feels like belonging, so you overspend to keep up.

Maybe staying in stress feels familiar.

This is how your emotional relationship with money is shaped.

This Isn’t a Mindset Problem

Most women think they have a money mindset problem.

But what they actually have…

Is a system that hasn’t fully processed what it’s been through.

You can regulate your nervous system all day long…

But if your body is holding onto undigested food, undigested emotions, and past experiences—what Ayurveda calls ama—

your system is still carrying a load.

And that load shows up in your relationship with money.

How Financial Therapy and Emotional Processing Help

This is where financial therapy and deeper emotional work come in.

In my work, we process past experiences so your nervous system can reorganize and feel lighter, clearer, and more grounded.

But we don’t stop there.

We also look at the body.

Your digestion.
Your hunger.
Your physical agni.

Because your ability to process food and your ability to process your life are deeply connected.

This is a whole-person approach to your relationship with money.

Where to Start

If you’re doing mindset work or nervous system work and still feel stuck with money…

It may not be because you’re doing it wrong.

It may be because your system hasn’t fully processed what it’s been through.
