What Really Happens When Women Have Money?
Let’s talk about something I posted earlier this week, the stories we tell about women who have money.
The bad news? We still live in a culture that holds negative beliefs about successful, wealthy women. You know the ones: cold, cutthroat, lonely, power-hungry. Basically… Miranda Priestly in The Devil Wears Prada.
The good news? That stereotype is changing.
And thank goddess, because by this year, 2025, women are expected to hold 38% of the world’s wealth. That’s a whole lot of possibility.
So let’s ask the question:
What actually happens when women have money?
Research on self-made female millionaires shows the exact opposite. Not one of them cited revenge, anger, or resentment as motivation. Many actually talked about forgiving those who harmed them. Most said they got deep satisfaction from helping others.
Yes, these women worked hard. Yes, they worked smart.
Here’s what else is true about financially successful women:
They give more to charity than men.
They give 3x more of their income to relatives than men.
They’re more likely to invest, research, and plan.
They tend to be goal-oriented, frugal, and don’t dwell in the past.
They’re up early, moving their bodies, and working with vision.
And they donate an average of 7% of their income to causes they believe in.
But beyond the stats, here’s what wealth actually does for women:
It gives us choices: The ability to leave a toxic job or relationship. To take a risk on a dream. To invest in education. To create a business that aligns with our values.
It allows us to be equal partners: Financial independence brings a stronger voice into our homes and relationships. We stop asking for permission, and start making strategic decisions.
It creates impact: We use our money to build communities, support other women, influence policy, and fund organizations that care about people, not just profit.
It changes the world: Women reinvest in families, homes, education, and neighborhoods. They create ripple effects that support generations to come.
When women become wealthy, lead, and give...we all benefit.
Our daughters see themselves in leadership. Our communities grow stronger. And our economy becomes more diverse, creative, and resilient.
So no… becoming wealthy doesn’t make us harsh or greedy.
It makes us free. Powerful. And generous as hell.
And we need more of that in the world.
I love this quote from the Millionaire Women Next Door:
“The women profiled herein will not tolerate such an existence (living paycheck to paycheck). They are a different breed. They are free. They are cultivators of wealth and are satisfied with life. They are in control of their own destiny. They are leaders.”
Let's join them.
PS. Maybe you already know your money blocks. You've done the work. You’ve read the books. You’ve journaled, affirmed, visualized. But something still isn’t shifting.
Deep down, you know you’re meant to hold more wealth, not just for yourself, but to help shift the paradigm for women and money. To build stronger communities. To be a force for good in the world.
