Most Money Mindset Books Miss the Mark…Here’s What Actually Works

There are a million books out there about money mindset.

And honestly?
Most of them say the same thing, just dressed up in a different cover.

Let me sum it up for you:

1. “Change Your Thoughts, Change Your Bank Account!”

  • “Your beliefs create your reality.”

  • Think abundance. Eliminate scarcity.

  • Say affirmations like “Money flows to me easily.”

  • Visualize. Journal. Watch your self-talk.

Your thoughts do matter. That part is true.

But here’s the TRUTH most of these books don’t tell you:

Mindset without nervous system regulation?
Mindset without trauma healing?
Mindset without inner safety?

IT’S NOT ENOUGH.

You can’t override a dysregulated body with positive thoughts. That’s not how it works.

2. “Make a Vision Board and Practice Gratitude!”

  • Get clear on your dream life.

  • Feel it in your body like it was already true.

  • Act “as if.”

  • Gratitude journal ‘til your hand cramps.

I call this: RAH-RAH-RAH MONEY COACHING.

And don’t get me wrong, it’s fun. It activates your imagination and gets energy flowing.
That’s important.

But... if your nervous system is stuck in fight/flight, if your inner child is terrified of failing, if your body doesn’t believe it’s safe to receive?

No amount of glitter glue or vision boards will get you out of survival mode. 🙅‍♀️

3. “Take Big Risks. Trust. Stretch Yourself.”

Raise your rates.
Charge more.
Get out of your comfort zone.
Do the “scary thing.”
TRUST. THE. PROCESS.

And YES, expansion does require courage.

But most money books leave out the part where you learn to feel SAFE inside that stretch.

There’s a reason it feels terrifying to charge more. To say no to clients you don’t want to work with.
To stop under-earning and overworking.
To believe you're worthy of wealth.

So… what does work?

Let’s talk about 3 books that actually go deeper than surface-level abundance hype.

1-It’s Not Your Money by Tosha Silver

This book is like a warm bath for your soul. It cracked me open and let me breathe again.

Tosha flips the script: instead of pushing, forcing, manifesting your way into “success,” she teaches surrender. She reminds you that you are not here to control everything. You're here to trust.

But if you’ve lived your whole life in survival mode—having to hustle, grind, make it happen on your own? Surrender can feel like impossible.

This is why I do trauma clearing in Awakened Wealth—so your body actually feels safe enough to trust the Divine again.

2-The Emotion Behind Money by Julie Murphy

Written by a Certified Financial Planner who also gets emotions and Ayurveda?! YES PLEASE.

She breaks down how your unprocessed emotions impact your spending, saving, and relationship with money.

Here’s the truth:
✅ You don’t just have “bad habits.”
✅ You’re carrying unhealed moments of pain, shame, and scarcity.

She teaches that until you FEEL the stuck emotions in your body, they’ll keep running the show. Sound familiar? That’s exactly what we do in my world.

This book is a blueprint for emotional + financial integration. HIGHLY recommend.

3-The Millionaire Next Door (+ updated version)

This one isn’t woo, but it’s real.

It shows you how regular people with regular jobs become millionaires by making aligned, grounded, long-game decisions. Not flashy. Not overnight.

It outlines the difference between:

Under Accumulators of Wealth (UAWs):
✅ Overspend
✅ Value looking rich over being wealthy
✅ Don’t prioritize investing

Prodigious Accumulators of Wealth (PAWs):
✅ Live below their means
✅ Invest strategically
✅ Focus on NET WORTH, not appearances

This book will shake you out of comparison and remind you that wealth is built, not “attracted.”

You don’t need more RAH-RAH-RAH coaching.

You need healing.

You need tools that help you feel confident in your value and process, find a sense of safety and financial stability, freedom from hustle, and the ability to rest, travel, care for family, and enjoy life

Come inside Awakened Wealth, this is what we do.
